We are based in Clarecastle, Co. Clare and were founded in 1999. We are a walking club which is lead by it’s members, exploring different routes around Ireland. We welcome members of different fitness levels and are open to Adults of all age groups.
Why Join Our Walking Club?
Whether you are a keen walker or just want a stroll this is the club for you. We go on walks designed to suit all levels of abilities and fitness. The walks vary from 4km to 10km and are usually on the flat. The emphasis at all times is on participation and enjoyment of all club activities and we have a very active social side. Club members are involved in a wide range of activities, and those members also frequently organise trips away. Anyone over 18 is welcome to join or join us for a trial walk and then if happy to join a nominal membership fee of €15 is required.
Day Trips
We generally go on a walk the first Sunday of every month during the year. Depending on where the walk is we either carpool or hire a bus if going further afield. After our walk we usually go for a bite to eat as a group before returning home. All costs associated with travel are evenly divided among the group.
Social Events
On the Friday following a walk we usually hold a meeting in ‘Kate O’ Reilly’s pub (formerly Navans) in Clarecastle where we plan our future walks and events. We also use this meeting to take names and deposits for upcoming trips.
Trips Away
Trips away have become an important feature of our year. Places visited have included Killarney, Wicklow, Wexford, Donegal, Cork and the Aran Islands. Once a year we also arrange for a trip abroad, we have been on cruises in both the Caribbean and Mediterranean and in 2019 we also travelled on an escorted bus tour covering New York, Boston, Washington and Canada. These trips offer both the chance of a holiday and also to relax in comfortable surroundings with good company.

Disclaimer: The information provided by our group is intended as a general guide and has been provided in good faith. When joining a walk, rather than relying on the information provided, it is strongly recommended that individual walkers verify its correctness. We reminds every walker that joins the group, that it is each individual’s responsibility to approach outdoor activities, such as walking, with caution. Walking can be demanding and it is the responsibility of each individual to ensure they are fit enough to complete the distance before joining any walk. If there are any doubts a ‘would be’ walker should consult their G.P. Not all trails are on solid and even surfaces therefore it is each walkers individual responsibility to look after their own safety and not the liability of Clarecastle Walking club and it’s organisers.
